In middle school, Roxana Hadadi was a cosmetics-scorning tomboy; in high school, a glitter eye shadow- and black nail polish-loving trend kid; in college, obsessively committed to dying her hair unruly colors that upset her mom. Now a bit older and a bit more mature, she's trying to figure out what hair, body and cosmetics products will work for her, you and your family in About Face, Chesapeake Family's new beauty blog — and she'll leave the sparkle makeup and neon highlights in the past. NealsYard2 ChesapeakeFamilyAboutFaceWith Earth Day right around the corner, why not go organic? British brand Neal’s Yard has been using natural ingredients for decades, with a wide range of products for your face to feet.

Last week, I thought about the upcoming Earth Day—Tuesday, April 22!—and reviewed two body washes from the environmentally minded brand JĀSÖN to recognize the holiday. And my nod toward Earth Day continues this week, as I feature products from the brand Neal’s Yard.

A British company that has been around for more than 30 years, Neal’s Yard is seriously committed to being organic, with a long list of chemicals and synthetic ingredients they don’t use and an even longer list of natural ones that they do (check out more information on their website). According to Neal’s Yard, “We may not be able to avoid all of these chemicals, but we believe it makes sense to do what we can to minimise contact wherever possible,” and a result most of their products are as streamlined as possible.

For this review, I received a few different Neal’s Yard products to try: Rose Facial Wash, White Tea Facial Mist, Lemon and Coriander Deodorant, Aromatic Body Butter, and Pumice Foot Scrub. For my thoughts on Neal’s Yard, read on!

JasonApricotRosewaterBodyWash ChesapeakeFamilyAboutFaceAs Earth Day approaches, think about switching up your beauty routine to something a little more natural. Fragrant, foamy body washes from JĀSÖN will help ease your transition.

Happy almost Earth Day! Hopefully your Tuesday, April 22, will include a bit more Earth-consciousness than normal. Be sure to recycle. Maybe use less water than usual. And consider trying out some brands that use natural ingredients in their beauty products, like JĀSÖN.

I will be honest: I had not heard about JĀSÖN until I received their body washes for review. But I’m so impressed by their story: for decades the brand (JĀSÖN means “healer” in Greek) has been using “wholesome ingredients” like aloe vera, peppermint oil, bamboo powder, and more to create products that pertain to their particular “Code of Honor.” They never test on animals, use gentle ingredients, and constantly test products to make sure they’re efficient.

To see for myself, I received JĀSÖN body washes in Apricot and Rosewater to try out. And as Earth Day approaches, I’ll try to review one other set of environmentally conscious products on About Face. Stay tuned!

GudMangoMoonbreeze ChesapeakeFamilyAboutFaceThe new Mango Moonbreeze collection from güd by Burt’s Bees is hitting drugstores near you. Should you grab anything from the four-piece haircare and bodycare collection?

By Roxana Hadadi

For hair products and body wash, I’m very particular: I generally prefer the scent of citrus over anything else, although exotic things like fig or jasmine can certainly catch my attention. And luckily for me, it looks like a number of new body and haircare collections hit drugstores last winter and this spring with that same fruitiness in mind, including the new güd by Burt’s Bees Mango Moonbreeze collection.

Because I usually jump on the fruity train, I was so excited to receive products from Mango Moonbreeze for review: Body Lotion, Body Wash, and Softening Conditioner. Although I didn’t really like the previous güd by Burt’s Bees collection I reviewed, Red Ruby Groovy, I had higher hopes for Mango Moonbreeze. Mangos and the ocean, what could go wrong?

So should any of these products make their way home with you during your next trip to the drugstore? For my thoughts on the Mango Moonbreeze collection, read on!

EyelinerLancomeUrbanDecayCargo ChesapeakeFamilyAboutFaceLooking for some new eyeliner? Consider pencil and liquid options from Lancôme, Cargo, and Urban Decay. Whether you want safe options like navy blue or an edgy shimmery lavender, you’ll find something you like from these brands.

By Roxana Hadadi

On my laziest mornings, I do nothing with my face. Maybe I’ll slap some moisturizer on there, but I definitely have mornings where I’m too tired to even put on mascara. Like this morning—I’ve had viral bronchitis for a week now, and I don’t want to put any makeup on my face at all. It just seems like too much work on a sick day.

Last week, though, when I was healthier, I was all about the eyeliner, trying out options from Lancôme, Urban Decay, and Cargo. I received the products to try out, and pleasantly enough, I enjoyed all of them—and so did my coworkers, too, as I got compliments on each different eyeliner I wore last week. So that’s a great thing! And means you should try these out, too.
