New Mommy: Kristen Says Goodbye
This is my final blog for "Chesapeake Family." Which is pretty funny, considering it wouldn’t be wrong to assume that most readers figured my last blog was my last blog, since it’s been forever since I’ve updated.
I’m not leaving "Chesapeake Family," and we’re not taking down our blogs (in fact, five new blogs start next week.) But I, personally, have lost interest in blogging. It’s been great—I started when I was pregnant, and CF.com readers have seen me give birth the way I didn’t want to, start back to work and deal with that guilt, and have watched Jack grow up. This blog has been through the death of my Dad, which was when I really slowed down in posting.
And here’s why: Dad dying sucked, obviously. But it jolted me in a specific way in that I stopped looking at everything that I did as potential blog entries—I just wanted to do stuff, rather than do stuff and write about it. I wanted to stop writing jokes in my head when we took Jack to the water park, or when he got into this whole eating-out-of-the-cat-dish phase, or when I was wondering if we should start potty training. I write and edit and think about parenting all day—at my home time, I just wanted to be a mom.
So that’s it for the New Mommy blog, two years after it began. Two years is nothing in Internet-time, but Jack has gone from a breastfeeding newborn to a two-year-old with very strong opinions about food (i.e., hand over the chocolate milk and no one gets hurt.) The comments and emails I’ve gotten about the blogs (except the mean ones) have meant a lot to me, particularly the amazing number of people who emailed after Dad’s death. I’ll still update Cookin’ with Mama from time to time (probably more often now) and, obviously, you can still find me in the magazine.
Thanks for reading.
