See Maple Syrup Being Made
The sap from Maple trees is starting to run and three Maryland State Parks will show visitors how to turn sap into syrup this weekend, March 20 and 21.
40th Annual Maple Syrup Making Demonstrations
Cunningham Falls State Park
3/20/2010 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
3/21/2010 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Location: 14039 Catoctin Hollow Rd., Thurmont
Held in the William Houck (Lake) Area. Featuring continuous working demonstrations of the traditional maple syrup making process. Park staff will present regular talks explaining the syrup making process and history. Kids can enjoy free games, stories and crafts in a large, heated tent. Learn about the process of sap to syrup. A $2 minimum per person donation will be requested. Youth groups are asked to contribute $1 per person. Please leave all pets at home, as pets are prohibited in the William Houck Area of Cunningham Falls State Park. A delicious hot sausage and pancake breakfast will be served from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm for an additional charge. (Cash only) Maryland made maple syrup; maple candy and souvenirs will be available for sale. Proceeds benefit the ‘Friends of Cunningham Falls and Gambrill State Parks.’

Maple Syrup Demonstrations
Swallow Falls State Park

Location: 2700 Maple Glade Rd, Oakland
A boiling of Maple Syrup demonstration will be held at Swallow Falls State Park from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm on Saturday, March 20th. A local Maple Syrup producer, Steyer Brothers, will be on hand to answer questions and demonstrate the use of an evaporator in the syrup making process. Pure maple products will be offered for sale during this time. For more information, call 301-334-9180

Pancake Breakfast & Maple Syrup Demonstrations
Herrington Manor State Park
3/21/2010 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Location: 222 Herrington Lane, Oakland
Pancakes, buckwheat cakes, pure maple syrup, sausage, orange juice and coffee will be served at Herrington Manor State Park. $7.00 adults, and $4.00 for children under 12. Maple syrup demonstrations will be conducted during the breakfast. For additional information, please call 301-334-9180
