Fresh Food from Local Farmer's Markets

It’s early morning, but the scent of curried foods already wafts through the air. Clusters of people mill about, stopping at tables to sample farm-made jams, purchase seasonal vegetables, try on a handcrafted necklace or buy herbs for the home garden.

A Caribbean steel band group plays lively music that complements the festive atmosphere. Just overhead, the din of traffic moving along the Jones Falls Expressway ensures that no one mistakes this for a market on the farm. It’s the Baltimore Farmers’ Market — a market open every Sunday morning until just before Christmas. More than 200,000 visited the market last year, with peak Sundays bringing in 8,000 eager shoppers.
