In January 2017 we will become Chesapeake Family LIFE. This change reflects our recent growth and new focus on broader aspects of family life: topics for the grown-ups in the family who are people first, and parents second.
In response to reader demand, we have expanded our content to include more topics that go beyond parenting, such as events worth hiring a babysitter for, food and dining ideas, home and garden, and other areas of interest to moms and dads.
This expansion is a natural growth of who we are, our readers’ needs and our business. A lot has changed in the 26 years since I started the business, first called Chesapeake Children. In 1996 it was clear our editorial topics had moved beyond little kids to broader parenting topics. We changed our name to Chesapeake Family. We also added specialty annual guides like the BIG Book of Education, events, e-newsletters, social media and a website that now averages 65,000 monthly visitors.
Realizing our readers’ information-gathering habits have changed, we have made it our business to excel at using social media, print, web and e-newsletters to reach moms and dads wherever they are looking for information.
Combining all of our outlets — print and digital — we now reach over 200,000 parents every month. That’s huge, and it makes ChesapeakeFamily.com the most visited local website in the area.
As we become Chesapeake Family LIFE, we will continue to provide the award-winning content our readers count on, covering health, education and fun for families, but with a section specifically for moms and dads whose lives include more than their children.
