Applications Accepted for Anne Arundel County Student Model Government Program County Executive John R. Leopold is inviting all 10th and 11th grade students to compete for the chance to be County Executive, Councilman, or Department Head for a day. Students can now apply to participate in the annual Student Model Government Program. Applications are due by December 1. A mock County Council hearing will take place on February 17, 2009. Entrants must submit a short essay describing what the student would hope to accomplish if given the chance to serve as County Executive or as a County Councilman. Whether it is making our streets safer, bringing jobs to our county, or addressing environmental concerns, this is a great opportunity for our students to let us know their priorities. More than 30 students will be selected to participate in Model Government. Entry forms and instructions are available from Constituent Representative Joan Harris, who can be reached at 410-222-1323. Internet Safety Parent Night Comes to Calvert High To help parents know what's happening with kids online and how to address their concerns and challenges, Calvert County Public Schools is hosting a Parent Internet Safety Night at Calvert High School (in the cafeteria) on November 19th at 6:30pm. This event is designed specifically for parents, guardians and other adults involved in children and teens' lives. We ask that you not bring children to this event as some material may be inappropriate. This is the first of three planned Parent Nights. This same program will be offered in 2009 at both Patuxent High School and Northern High School. Dates and times for these programs will be finalized and announced soon. Members of the Sheriff's Office and the State's Attorney's Office will be sharing eye opening information on what's happening right here in Calvert County. They will also be giving parents information on how to become more involved with their children's online activities and proactive ways to keep their children safe while online. |
