Halloween thrills at area amusement parks

Bush Gardens HolloweenWNothing gets the adrenaline pumping more than an amusement park — except maybe an amusement park at Halloween.

Several area theme parks offer special activities in October. If your family is looking for a thrill this fall, check out the events at some of the parks in Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania. Make sure to note which are geared toward younger kids and which are not for the faint of heart.

Winning fall photos

Kids love fall with the pumpkin patches to explore, leaves to jump in and especially the costumes to dress up in. We asked our readers to send us photos of their kids enjoying fall for the 2016 Chesapeake Family Fall Photo Contest and we had so many adorable entries.

Aliya and Arielle Thompson, ages 3 and 5, from Odenton got the most votes in the 2016 photo contest. Brayden Rednagle, 5, from Sunderland, was chosen for the October cover. The rest below were just too cute not to show off. Thanks to all those who entered. And special thank you to our photo contest sponsor, Philbin & Reinheimer Orthodontics. Maryland Haunted Houses

Bennetts curse

Maryland has some creepy Haunted Halloween Houses. Some are suitable for little kids and others are for preteens and above. We've added a scary ranking of 1-10, with 10 being scariest and 1 being the most kid-friendly. However, you can also call before you head out, just to be sure. Updated for 2016.
