It's the sweet season of the strawberry and there are plenty of places for Maryland families to pick their own.
Strawberries begin to ripen by early May and the season could last through mid June. The harvest has been delayed spring 2017 due to cool weather.
When selecting sweet Maryland strawberries, be sure to look for a full, red color, bright luster and firm, plump flesh, according to the Maryland Department of Agriculture. Strawberries do not ripen after being picked, so be sure to choose fully ripe berries. The caps should be bright green, fresh looking and fully attached.
