Stars and Stripes Festival

National Memorial Day Concert

Commemoration at Fort McHenry
May 30. Rangers will give a special talk on the origin of Memorial Day and hoist Civil War era replica flag. Author Dan Toomey, dressed as a Union Veteran from the Civil War, will give an engaging presentation highlighting the origins of Memorial Day followed by a flag-raising ceremony in the Fort and a wreath-laying. And a recreation of the historic1880 Memorial Day observance including a speech delivered at Fort McHenry’s cemetery, Oliver Wendell Holmes’ historic Memorial Day address, and talk on origin of the holiday. Memorial Day Ceremony
