Yumi Hogan hones the art of being Maryland's First Lady

It would be easy to paint Yumi Hogan as the perfect first lady. Engaging, demure and graceful, she is the consummate hostess. She greets staff members by name, receives guests warmly with both hands, and seems more worried about everyone else’s comfort than her own.

But the strengths of Maryland’s first lady extend far beyond her expert hostess skills. As a working artist and teacher, and the nation’s first Korean-American first lady, Yumi Hogan is redefining her role as the stereotypical politician’s wife.

Annapolis extends free parking during holiday season

parking downtownVisitors to downtown Annapolis can park for free for up to three hours at a time during the holiday shopping season, Nov. 27, 2015, through Jan. 1, 2016.

The three hours of free parking will be available at all bagged parking spots on Main Street, Francis Street, West Street, Maryland Avenue, Prince George Street, City Dock and Market Space.

The 30-minute meters at the base of Main Street will only offer 30 minutes of free parking.

5 kids with a giving spirit

It’s the season of giving, and five Maryland kids are definitely doing their fair share.

A Crofton teen helps homeless kids with their homework. An Easton tween cooks for the needy. An Arnold youth sent school supplies to students in India, and twin boys from Laurel have spent countless hours caring for abused horses.

If you are looking for an uplifting story this holiday season, start here and learn what these five kids have gained while giving to others.

Halloween candy buy back locations in Maryland

Halloween Candy BuybackWondering what in the world to do with the loads of Halloween candy your kids have hauled in? Here is a list of some of the dentists and orthodontists in the Annapolis area who will buy the candy back from your kids.

Most donate the candy to the troops (often with toothbrushes included!). Check with the offices to find out the dates and times they will be buying back.
