10 Fabulous Fall Activities for the Whole Family

Fall has become the season for endless activities. There are so many ways for the family to enjoy the season together in Maryland, that is easy to find fun for everyone.

We have selected our top 10 favorite activities to do during the fall. Do the whole list or pick your favorite.

1.  Go apple picking

With so many local Maryland Apple Orchards, your family will sure to find a great place to grab some of these fall time fruits. A staple of food and craft, apples are a great way to kick off this cool season.

2.  Bake a Fall Dessert

Fill the house with the aroma of a wonderful fall dessert. Baking is one of the best ways to make memories with the kids and the reward of a sweet treat makes it even better. Try some of these recipes using some of those apples you just picked from a Maryland Orchard.

3.  Pick some pumpkins & explore a corn maze

Whether you want them for carving, cooking or just as some nice porch decor, picking your own pumpkins is a great fall activity. Many of these farms also have fun fall festivals and corn mazes to give your family a full day of fun.

4.  Take a fall camping trip

Just because the summer has ended doesn’t mean camping season has to as well. Camping in the fall is a great opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors without the great crowds. 5.  Enjoy a cool Fall Festival or Fair

Very little is better than fair food and the feel of the crisp cool autumn air. Enjoy a day at a fair or festival this fall and perhaps experience something new. September and October are full of a variety of celebrations. Find one that your family will love.

6.  Seasonal Movie Nights

Start getting in the spooky mood with some great movies. We have a list of family friendly Halloween movies that will be sure to make your movies nights full of fun.   Don’t forget to check your local library, as it is a great place to get these movies – usually for free!  Using the library’s online services, you can even request a specific movie to be sent to your local branch for pickup.

7.  Enjoy the birds by creating homemade bird feeders

Welcome nature into your backyard by having the kids create their own bird feeders. This is such a fun project to at home and benefits nature. It also a great way to get into the hobby of bird watching.

8.  Volunteer

This is a great time of year to give some of your time to benefit others. It can be something small such as helping a neighbor with a difficult task or helping at a food donation center. We have a great list of places in the area where you can give a little of your time to help those in our community.

9.  Go on a Hike and enjoy the colorful leaves of fall

The colors autumn creates are so impressive and inspiring that its hard to miss this beautiful announcement of the arrival of a new season. You can easily enjoy the vibrant colors right outside your window, but sometimes it’s nice to take a hike to be completely immersed in the fall color palette. Find a great family hike to get the kids outside to see the splendor of fall.

10.  Make some fall crafts

Grab your crafting supplies and allow the kids to make some cool autumn creations. There are plenty of ideas on the web to incorporate fall items. We have a create list of activities to do involving apples.
