Surround yourself with nature while staying in a tree cottage or tree house at The Treehouse Camp at Maple Tree Campground just outside of Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia. Hike along the Appalachian Trail, go river rafting or take in some history in Harper’s Ferry. Be sure to book a reservation online. Tree houses and cottages start at $43 a night.

Paddle at Quiet Waters

Spend a day on the water in Annapolis. Quiet Waters Park offers hourly and daily rental rates for kayaks, canoes and paddle boats and provides an easy way to put boats in the water. Paddle around Harness Creek and see the beauty and wildlife of our state’s capital. Be sure to pack a picnic as there are plenty of spots to stop along the way. Rentals start at $15 an hour.

For the first time, the kids will be out of school during the week of the Maryland State Fair Aug. 24-Sept. 4. Watch pig racing, farm animals being born, arm wrestling, bull riding and more. Grab some cotton candy and jump on your favorite rides. Fun and educational activities are offered throughout the fair. Advance tickets range from $2-$6, not including ride prices.
