A special bond between a granddaughter and her Pop — FranklyStein

At Christmas dinner, I mistakenly put my father-in-law, Pop, at the opposite end of the large table from my oldest daughter, Maggie. On his way to serve himself, he stopped at her place and commented how far away she was.

PopMag thenPop and Maggie have a special bond. When I was pregnant with her, my husband and I asked him if he would watch her a couple of days a week while I was at work. He was hesitant at first but then decided to do it, and I don’t think he regretted it for one second.

When she was an infant, Pop walked her up and down the hall of our house for hours, keeping her calm and happy. He fed her bottles and they napped together on the couch. When she was a few months old, he pushed her on long strolls around the neighborhood and took her to explore a nearby mall. She had his undivided attention, and he spoiled her. I’m pretty sure she stole his heart from the very start.MaggiePop Now

When she was about 7 months old, we went on vacation for two weeks. After a week or so, Pop came to visit and when Maggie saw him, she practically launched herself out of my arms to get to him — her long lost Pop.

After the twins were born and I was no longer going to work, Pop would come and take Maggie on adventures once a week. She loved her time with him.

To this day, they have a special connection. Maggie hates it if she’s not home when Pop comes to dinner, and he doesn’t appreciate being seated too far away from her at the table.

It warms my heart to see them together. I’m so glad we asked him to watch her all those years ago and so glad that he said yes.
