AACPS Family Involvement Conference – Good Parenting

Dear Dr. Debbie,

We’re looking for some free or inexpensive resources to keep up our parenting skills.

Everyone is doing pretty well, but with high school on the horizon for the oldest, and about ten years to go until the youngest can fly the nest, we just want to be sure to do the best job we can with our children.

Information and support are a good idea for the success of any important endeavor!

You’re in luck. “We Are Better Together” a free conference for parents is coming up. Registration is now open for the annual Parent Involvement Conference presented by Anne Arundel County Public Schools, School and Family Partnerships Office. The conference is scheduled for Saturday, November 10, 8:15 am to 2 pm at Anne Arundel Community College, 101 College Parkway, Arnold.

Continental breakfast and lunch are provided.

Designed for parents of students from Pre-K through high school, topics for break-out sessions include: reading readiness, supporting math skills, building children’s motivation and self-esteem, the connection between substance abuse and trauma, online resources for students, family vision boards, family read alouds, planning for college and career, and making use of the many resources of Anne Arundel County Public Library.

Online registration is through: www.aacps.org/conference. Limited child care is available during the conference for ages 3 to 12 with reservations through: 410-222-5309.
Spanish interpreters will be on hand. Anyone needing interpreters for other languages should call ahead: 410-222-5418. This number and 410-222-5414 can be used for any other questions regarding the conference.

Dr. Debbie Wood will be presenting “Little Kids at Hope” a workshop for parents, teachers and child care professionals about nurturing relationships in the first five years. The workshop will be held at Chesapeake Children’s Museum in Annapolis, Wednesday, October 17 from 6:30 – 9:30 pm.
