SpaRitual Rock collection
Left to right: Basalt, Conglomerate, Lithophonic, Marble, Quartz, Slate
SpaRitual always does something interesting with their collections, and the brand has been a favorite of About Face for a while (just take a look at the SpaRitual-heavy “Fifty Shades of Grey” ombre polish post for proof). And the six-piece Rock collection is just as wonderfully weird as we would come to expect from the brand.
Inspired by the dark grittiness and beauty of nature, Rock includes the following shades: Basalt, a dark grey crème with a bit of slate blue; Conglomerate, a deep grey base with golden shimmer and larger particles of white and black glitter; Lithophonic, a deep brown with green and pink shimmer; Marble, a super-shimmery white; Quartz, a clay red crème; and Slate, a gray with pink shimmer. I think Conglomerate and Lithophonic are amazingly creative, but all the shades are, really; there’s nothing in Rock that feels like we’ve seen it before. Zero repetition.
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY: $10 each at Sephora stores or Sephora.com.
Zoya Ornate collection
Left to right: Aurora, Blaze, Electra, Logan, Storm, Ziv
OK, let’s be serious for a moment: Zoya’s polishes are top-notch. Wonderfully, impressively top-notch, and the Ornate collection is no exception. Two coats is all you need for this collection of holographic-finish polishes, which really take things to a new level.
Included in the collection are Aurora, a mix of purple, pink, and silver holographic glitter; Blaze, a mix of berry red, light purple, and gold holographic glitter; Electra, a mix of silver and holographic bar glitter; Logan, a dazzling green foil with gold shimmer; Storm, a mix of black, silver, and multicolored holographic glitter; and Ziv, a very densely metallic gold foil with slightly larger gold glitter particles.
If I could wear these all at the same time, I would.
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY: $8 per bottle at Zoya.com or Ulta stores.
Finger Paints Holiday of Wonders collection
Left to right: Elves Bells, Hollydazzle, Merry Mistletoe, Midnight Sleigh Ride, Santa’s Magic, Sparkle and Snowflake
One of the best things about Finger Paints is its affordability; the polishes range between $4 and $6 in price depending on whether they’re on sale, and it’s a good price for the variety of colors produced specifically for Sally Beauty stores.
For their holiday collection this year, Finger Paints has gone in a fairly traditional route, but that’s not a bad thing, really. If you’re looking for something classic, Finger Paints probably has it with these six colors: Elves Bells, a brassy gold glitter with variously sized particles; Hollydazzle, a bright cherry red with gold shimmer; Merry Mistletoe, a medium grass green with gold shimmer (but, beware, it’s very sheer and needs numerous coats to be opaque); Midnight Sleigh Ride, a royal blue with slight silver shimmer; Santa’s Magic, a topcoat of very chunky silver and holographic round glitter; and Sparkle and Snowflake, a more fine mix of silver and holographic glitter.
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY: $3.99 at Sally Beauty stores and online at SallyBeauty.com.
