LUSH holiday offerings

LUSHHoliday ChesapeakeFamilyAboutFaceLeft to right: LUSH Sandy Santa Sugar Scrub, Fun – Blue, Fun – Green, Mr. Punch Soap

Every holiday, LUSH steps up to the plate with a variety of themed products, and why would Christmas be any different? There’s the festive Sandy Santa Sugar Scrub, made with sugar and sand to exfoliate, and Mr. Punch Soap, which smells like a mix of fruity citrus and a splash of gin. And yup, there is a little splash of that alcohol actually in the soap, which is both weird and amazing.

For kids, LUSH’s recently launched Fun soap might be particularly interesting. It’s moldable and multipurpose, and can serve as a soap, shampoo, bubble bath, or soak. Available in a variety of different colors, the Blue shade is an herbal blend, while the Green is based in lemons and limes.

PRICE AND AVAILABILITY: $5.95 for Sandy Santa; $6.95 each for Fun; $6.95 for Mr. Punch Soap, all at LUSHUSA.com and LUSH stores.

Go outside the box

OddsEnds ChesapeakeFamilyAboutFaceLeft to right: Shea Terra Organics Authentic African Black Soap bar, Jack Black Turbo Body Bar, Goody Doublewear ponytail ties and headwraps

The worst thing you can get in your stocking: coal. The best thing you can get in your stocking: A gift you would never expect. And so we have these outside-the-box picks, which are things that caught my eye but I would procrastinate buying for myself—which is why it’s perfect when someone else buys them for you.

I always like a good, gritty soap, and Jack Black Turbo Body Bar, made of lava rock and with little exfoliating scrubbers, fits the bill. Similarly powerful against dead skin is the Shea Terra Organics Authentic African Black Soap bar, which would be great for anyone battling acne or blemishes.

And this may be a serious first-world problem, but I really hate those days when I forget to snap a hair-tie around my wrist before leaving the house. Sorry to complain, but it’s true. So I was super-excited when I saw the Goody Doublewear products at the drugstore; a combination of hair elastic and shiny metal that turns the hair-tie into minimalistic jewelry, too. The headwrap can be a necklace and the ponytail elastic can be a bracelet, and I’m sure the shine makes them easier to remember, too.

PRICE AND AVAILABILITY: $8 for African Black Soap bar at SheaTerraOrganics.com; $15 for Turbo Body Bar at GetJackBlack.com; $4.99 for Goody Doublewear products, two headwraps or three ponytail elastics, at Target.com and Target store locations.
