JosieMaranArganColorStick ChesapeakeFamilyAboutFaceSupermodel Josie Maran strives to make eco-friendly, natural beauty products with her cosmetics, body, and skincare line—and Argan Color Stick in Rosey is another great find from the brand.

I absolutely adore Josie Maran and her line of cosmetics, body, and skincare, and in previous About Face posts I’ve written about the brand’s Magic Marker Lip Stain, Argan Oil Cleansing Bars, Argan Beautiful Eyes palette, and Magic Marker Liquid Eyeliner. Quite simply, the brand’s motto, “Luxury with a conscience,” seems really responsible to me. Sometimes when I walk into a drugstore or Sephora I’m caught off-guard by exactly how much plastic and chemicals go into making cosmetics, and the Josie Maran line seems like a refreshing change from that. The supermodel has developed a line that strives to be nontoxic and eco-friendly, and many of the products are based in argan oil, which Maran’s website describes as an “all-natural, 100% organic, chemical-free beauty marvel.”

Argan oil, from argan trees found in Morocco, is a rich source of vitamin E and supposedly has “healing, conditioning and anti-aging properties to keep your skin and hair nourishes and revitalized,” and it’s the second ingredient in the Josie Maran Argan Color Stick. (The first ingredient is apricot kernel oil, the third ingredient is cocoa seed butter, and other ingredients include shea butter, avocado butter, vitamin E, rosemary leaf oil, and lemon tea tree oil.)

How does the Argan Color Stick, a multipurpose product for cheeks and lips, hold up? Read my review to find out!

Josie Maran’s Argan Color Stick is a dual-purpose product that can be used for lips and cheeks, and is available in two colors, dusty rose Rosey and peachy pink Pink Petal. For this review, I tested the Rosey color.

Josie Maran’s website suggests using the Argan Color Stick by sweeping “over the apples of the cheeks” and then blending “towards the temples with your fingertip,” so I followed those instructions when testing the product as a blush. The product is ultra-convenient in its twist-up tube, stick form, and I just used my fingers to dab some of the product on my cheeks and blend. It blended very easily and smoothly, and although the color is sheer, a couple of layers really made the dusty rose shade prominent on my olive skin. On my bare skin, the product looks dewey and lovely, but I didn’t like combining it with foundation, concealer, or powder; my face ended up looking too cakey. I had my best results when using the Argan Color Stick with nothing else on my face; it lasted about five hours before fading.

How about on my lips? Because the product is mostly butter- and wax-based, I felt like applying Argan Color Stick was incredibly similar to wearing lip balm—the product had a very smooth consistency that didn’t drag on my lips. It smells strongly of lemon and herbs, which is a nice natural kick. And I experienced a similar finish as I did using the Argan Color Stick as a blush: a pleasant sheerness. It’s not particularly moisturizing, but it’s also not drying; as a lip product, Argan Color Stick lasted between three and four hours.

JosieMaranArganColorStick2 ChesapeakeFamilyAboutFaceThe only downside to the Argan Color Stick is its lack of a specified wear-time, and five hours isn’t the longest time for a blush—it means you have to reapply throughout the day. But that’s the only qualm I could find with this product, which is pretty enough to wear quite often and will help appease your environmentally friendly conscience, too.

VERDICT: A-, with a lower grade because of the lack of an expectation for wear-time as a blush or lip product.

PRICE: $22 for 0.55 oz.

AVAILABILITY: At Josie Maran’s website or on Sephora.com and Sephora locations.
