Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream – Intense Hydration launched in February, and is specifically formulated for “drier skin types,” in comparison with Kiehl’s original Ultra Facial Cream. This version is described by Kiehl’s as an “intensely hydrating, ultra light moisturizer,” which “instantly smoothes and softens dry skin while improving skin’s radiance” and “locks in moisture for 24-hour hydration.” It was clinically tested in extreme conditions—including, according to Kiehl’s, the ultra-dry climate of Phoenix, Arizona, and among swimmers whose skin is constantly exposed to chlorine and other chemicals—and is supposed to “relieve visible dryness in just one week.”
Tall claims! But I was impressed very, very quickly. The lotion has a thinner-than-normal texture, so I used four dime-sized blobs: one on my forehead, one on each cheek, and one on my neck. I found it spread really easily and absorbed quite quickly, and the lotion doesn’t have an odor or fragrance. I liked that very much; too many lotions and crèmes can have a heavy, almost floral smell, and Kiehl’s completely lacks that. A little off-putting for me was that I could still feel the lotion on my face all day, almost like a film resting on my skin, but I got used to that feeling after a few days.
Most importantly, though, after two days, my breakouts cleared up, and after a week, my skin overall felt smoother and with fewer dry patches. I’ve continued using it since, and this really became a light, go-to moisturizer for me. If you can get yourself to a Kiehl’s store, Sephora, or Nordstrom to try out a sample for yourself, I would highly recommend it.
VERDICT: A. Great texture and great results.
AVAILABILITY: $26.50 for 1.7 fl oz. jar, at Kiehls.com, Sephora, and Nordstrom.
