Do you think a trip to Sephora is the key to all your makeup questions? Well, maybe not. I’ve noticed during the past few years that a few of my favorite under-the-radar brands have been disappearing from Sephora’s shelves—brands like tokidoki, Tarina Tarantino, Calvin Klein, and most recently Lorac—with little to no announcement from the store. More and more brands have their own websites, of course, but how to try on an item first virtually? It’s impossible.

Which is why I’ve been turning to other stores like Macy, Kohl’s, Nordstrom, and Ulta lately, especially as they’ve begun to carry some brands I’ve liked that have left Sephora, like Cargo. The brand disappeared for a while and then relaunched last year. Although it is on the smaller end of things—one or two lip and eye formulas each, a basic but encompassing range of shades—I had the opportunity to try a few of its products for this review and liked most of them.

Cargo’s Essential Lip Color in two shades and Eye Shadow Single in one shade were provided to me for review, and they continued the good streak I’ve had with the brand, which begin with their Let’s Meet in Paris Kit, which I recommended in our holiday gift guide. For my thoughts and swatches of the Essential Lip Color and Eye Shadow Single, read on!
