About Face: Spend on cosmetics with more-than-Halloween mileage

Halloween-themed nails

HalloweenNails ChesapeakeFamilyAboutFaceLeft to right: Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips in 102 Batty for You, 103 Patch-O-Lanterns, 104 Numbskull, 105 Spun for You; NYC New York Color Demon Glow Top Coat

OK, I’ll be fair here: You might not want to wear pumpkins, spiderwebs, and bats on your nails year round. But the Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips have enough in each box that you can probably buy one set and share it with your daughter, and I think matching Halloween manicures is a pretty cute idea. Plus, they’re stickers—the cleanup for a do-it-yourself nail session with a group of young girls or teenagers would be nonexistent.

And to amp up the look, add NYC New York Color Demon Glow Top Coat, which glows under UV light. For teenagers, that will be a fun touch if they’re attending a Halloween-themed dance at school or a neighborhood party. Or, if you’re like me, maybe you want your nails to glow in the dark all the time. I’m telling you, if I could bring Halloween into every day, I would.

PRICE AND AVAILABILITY: Sally Hansen Salon Effects strips, about $7.99 at CVS, Target, and other drugstores; NYC New York Color Demon Glow, $2.49 at CVS, Rite-Aid, and other drugstores.
