Our mission is to connect parents with great local businesses through print publications, online advertising, e-enewsletters, social media and events. We are looking for “hunters” who will be responsible for prospecting and selling print and digital ads to small and medium size businesses. We are searching for results-driven sales professionals who can conduct marketing sales calls, have the ability to identify the business owner or decision maker, present a marketing plan and close the deal.

Traits of a successful account manager include:
•    2+ years sales experience

•    Computer proficient and comfortable using cloud-based programs for reporting and customer management

Freelance Writers Needed

Are you in tune with topics Maryland parents care about and know who — and how — to ask to get your burning questions answered? Do you like to share what you know with others through stories, tips and creative presentation? Do you have exceptional grammar, communication skills and professional journalism writing experience? Then we're looking for you!

We're on the hunt for local freelance writers to pitch topics and write on assignment for Chesapeake Family magazine and website. Professional journalism, photo and/or video skills are especially desirable. Payment is based on experience, topic and length of assignment on a per assignment basis.

Calendar Editor

Jefferson Communications is seeking a freelance calendar editor to manage the digital and monthly print calendars for Chesapeake Family and associated e-newsletters. This key position also compiles and updates weekly, seasonal and holiday event roundups throughout the year.

**We currently are looking to fill this important position as soon as possible.**

This freelance position requires someone who is:

  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Comfortable balancing and meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Persistent — yet polite — in tracking down information and photos.
  • A good communicator with other team members and able to come to the office weekly.
  • And, above all, passionate about helping Chesapeake Family be the top resource for Maryland parents looking for events and things to do in the area.

The ideal candidate also will have experience and/or knowledge of:

  • Writing for the Web with a basic understanding of SEO.
  • Working with content management/blog platforms.
  • Resizing digital images.
  • Working in a journalism or communications capacity.
  • Following AP style.

This freelance position is for 10-15 hours per week at a rate of $15/hour.

Inside Sales: — Position Closed

Work in the office with our sales manager to help develop sales leads, follow up with current advertisers, assist with marketing materials and more. You must be good on the phone and have excellent written skills to compose emails. 25-30 hours/week or full time. Hourly salary plus bonuses.


Event Staff — Position Closed

Looking for a few reliable and personable people to staff events periodically throughout the year . Familiarity with Chesapeake Family Life and accompanying websites is a must. pay is $12 per hour.

We currently do not need any Event Staff. 


Marketing and Editorial Interns

Chesapeake Family Life has positions open for graphic design, editorial, video/multimedia and marketing/sales interns. College and high school students are encouraged to apply. A willingness to learn, ability to follow directions and stay on task while working alone, reliability and good research skills are essential.

Video interns should have experience with editing video for the web.

The perks: hours are flexible and can be adjusted to fit your schedule. You get to work with an award-winning and fun staff. You work will be printed and/or put online so you will have clips and credits to include in your portfolio of work. 

Magazine Delivery

Chesapeake Family Life is looking for drivers to deliver the magazine every month. We have two routes available, Crofton/Gambrills and Bowie.
 
Drivers will receive a distribution list at the end of each month as well as a date the magazine will be available for pickup. Drivers then come to Annapolis to pick up the magazines and deliver them during normal business hours to locations on the established routes. Locations include schools, libraries and doctors’ offices. Magazines should be delivered to all locations on the route by the third business day of the month and the distribution list emailed back to the office. Your check is then mailed to you.
 
You must use your own vehicle and you are responsible for your own insurance and fuel. Delivery days and hours are flexible as long as you meet the deadlines. Each route takes less than 8 hours to deliver.
 
A reliable vehicle is required as well as a positive and responsible attitude. This is a great way for a parent with kids in school to make some additional money.
