The importance of adequate sleep for children can’t be understated. The CDC recommends that kids ages 6-12 should be getting 9-12 hours of sleep per night. Teens aged 13-18 need 8-10 hours of sleep each night. The CDC also reports that 6 in 10 middle schoolers and 7 in 10 high schoolers aren’t getting the recommended amount of sleep.
Our conversation with Dr. Melody Hawkins, who specializes in Pediatrics, Pediatric Pulmonology, and Sleep Medicine at the Inova Children’s Sleep Center in Fairfax, Virginia will cover the dangers of not getting enough sleep as well as changing school start times to allow older kids more time to sleep.
