Manners are very important to my mother, and to her the most important demonstration of good manners is humility. She can’t stand people who brag, and she’s never hesitated to set me straight when I drift over the line myself. Mom’s right, and when I argue with my campaign staff about the need for subtlety in our messaging, I’ve more than once threatened to have my mother call them.
