The Annapolis High School Unified Sports tennis team won the county championship as well as the gold medal at the state championship this season.
Unified sports teams bring together students with and without disabilities to train and play together on the same team. The Unified Sports Program is a partnership between Anne Arundel County Public Schools and Special Olympics that began in the Spring of 2011. The varsity sports are open to any student who meets the athletic eligibility requirements. Each team competing must be made up of 50 percent of students with a disability, and 50 percent of students without a disability. In tennis, players compete in a unified doubles pair, consisting of one student with a disability and one without.
