Annapolis SOUPer Bowl lunch benefits homeless

Score a great lunch and help the homeless before watching the Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 7, during the annual SOUPer Bowl Lunch for the Lighthouse Shelter at Heritage Baptist Church in Annapolis.

Chef Pope at SOUPer BowlLunch is available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and benefits the Annapolis Light House Homeless Prevention Support Center. Admission is free, but donations are requested to benefit the shelter.

Students from the Light House BEST Culinary Arts job training program will ladle soups prepared by award-winning local Chef Zachary Pope of Blackwall Hitch. Soup options include chicken noodle, baked potato and chili. Guests also can enjoy salad, bread, drinks and cake.

“I have been making SOUPer Bowl soups for 10 years now and still look forward to it every year,” said Pope, one of the founding organizers of this event. “It is gratifying to participate in such a grass-roots effort and see so many members of the community stop in year after year to enjoy soup, reconnect and help out.”

Since it began in 2007, the annual SOUPer Bowl has raised thousands of dollars for the shelter.

The fundraiser will be at Heritage Baptist Church, 1740 Forest Dr., Annapolis.

Heritage Baptist is an affiliate congregational partner of the Light House, offering support and resources throughout the year. For more information, contact the church office at 410-263-6680, or visit the Heritage Baptist website.
