The Anne Arundel County Special Education Citizens’ Advisory Committee (SECAC) is accepting nominations for its third annual SECAC Star Awards program to recognize individuals whose work with students receiving special education services in Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) demonstrates extraordinary effort above and beyond normal job duties.
There are two categories this year for awards:
Category 1: Nominees must be employees of AACPS or related service providers who work directly with AACPS students with an IEP or IFSP. Potential nominees include but are not limited to, teachers, teaching assistants, administrators, therapists (speech, occupational, physical), nurses, bus drivers and aides, custodians, and cafeteria employees. Nominations may only be submitted by parents or guardians of students who have an IEP or IFSP, or by AACPS administrators. Nominations are limited to one individual or team per nominator or family. Any AACPS staff member who has received a STAR award previously is ineligible to be considered for an award.
Category 2: This year, another category has been added – the SECAC Star Administrator Award, which goes to the principal or assistant principal who, in an extraordinary sense, has demonstrated advocacy for students receiving services and unwavering support for the team/individuals that implement these services. Nominations are being solicited from the special education teams (special educators, TAs, TSAs, and related service providers) in AACPS schools.
All nominations must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013. For complete information and to access a nomination form, please see the website or email [email protected].
