Personal genealogy has long been a topic of interest for families seeking to know their history and heritage, and in Anne Arundel County, it’s turned into a community effort.

For the last five decades, the Anne Arundel Genealogical Society has grown from a small group of genealogy enthusiasts to a now hundred-member team. Serving as a hub for the preservation of family history and essential genealogical research, Anne Arundel Genealogical Society has epitomized growth, passion and collaborative research since 1974.

The group kicked off its 50th anniversary year in September with a local genealogy fair that connected community members with seasoned genealogists and the Kuethe library in Glen Burnie—which has additional resources—and even provided activities for children.
Looking ahead, the society has more in store for its milestone anniversary year to help support preserving the history of Anne Arundel County and its families.

Upcoming Zoom sessions include a Nov. 7 session on how to best utlilize Ancestry.com’s pro tools and an exploration of the lives of notable Anne Arundel County residents through the Maryland State Archives Collection. This session will explain how to use genealogical documents such as land deeds, probate files, personal papers, etc. for personal research purposes.
