At Home Style: The Perfect Easter Basket

Easter_Basket

The Perfect Easter Basket isn’t a basket at all. It’s an Easter Auction. Here’s why:

When the kids are little, Easter egg hunting is a lot of fun and the kids are so excited. The Easter Bunny hides the eggs and it’s worth the effort.

As the kids get older, it’s not as much fun. The Easter Bunny is older, the kids are older and they’re not as excited. Also, egg hunting is strictly an early morning activity due to the candy melting issues and bugs and older kids sleep later. They’re brats.

The solution: An Easter Auction. The benefit: It’s fun and everyone can be involved including grandparents, cousins, friends and neighbors…the more the merrier.

Here’s what you do:

Have every family unit contribute to the auction table with gift certificates or prizes. Display items on the auction table so the egg hunters can see the treasures.

Some auction table ideas:

  • Gift cards to grocery store, clothes store, gas station.
  • Fast food gift cards like Pizza Hut, Subway, McDonalds.
  • Brownie and cookie mixes
  • Lip gloss, make-up.
  • Doggie toys
  • Books/Coloring books
  • DVD’s/Video games/Board games
  • Candles
  • Candy
  • Gum
  • Magazines
  • Wine (adults play too!)

Designate an auctioneer to fill the plastic eggs with monopoly money; ones and fives are great. Figure about 10-15 eggs per person. Number the eggs. Non-egg hunters hide the eggs. Auctioneer determines starting bids based on amount of eggs.

Armed with baskets or bags start the Egg Hunt. Once all the eggs are accounted for the auction begins and the highest bidder wins. Happy Easter Everyone!
