Your Maryland family can join others worldwide in the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup Sept. 21.
Help clean up Maryland’s waterways of harmful trash and keep it from washing into the areas rivers, bay and ocean. Families, kids, clubs, schools, businesses and individuals can join the cleanup at one of many sites throughout the Baltimore, Annapolis and Washington D.C. area. Find a local site and get friends together to be a part of the worldwide event.
Register on the Coastal Cleanup website or contact the Maryland coordinator at email@example.com. Request a debris data sheet so the kids can tally the trash they collect.
Last year, 561,633 volunteers cleaned up nearly 18,000 miles and collected 10,149,988 pounds of trash. Some of the weird finds included 4,159 candles, 40 lottery tickets, 2,492 sports balls, 236 toothbrushes and 117 mattresses, according to the Ocean Conservancy website.
