Chesapeake Beach, in Calvert County, is one of the best places to live in Maryland for families. Tucked away on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay, Chesapeake Beach is a quaint, resort town that has emerged into a desirable place for families to live. The town was originally established in 1894 as a destination community at the end of the railway from Washington, DC. Chesapeake Beach now boasts good schools, access to bay beaches, bike and walking trails, and a library and water park that are right at the edge of town. 

Because of the proximity to the bay, Chesapeake Beach is the home to excellent restaurants that feature fresh seafood, and a robust charter fishing business. Antiques stores dot the small shopping area, and community events welcome not only neighbors but visitors from nearby towns. Washington, DC is approximately 35 miles from Chesapeake Beach via MD 4South. There is no public transportation.

Households with children under age 18 comprise 41% of the total. 15.2% of residents are from minority populations, as compared to the Maryland average of 41.8%. Average household income is $143,990 and 69% of houses are occupied by the owner. 

Recreation

The old railroad tracks have been converted into trails for approximately 1.4 miles. Beachside cliffs offer the adventurous plenty of opportunities for searching for fossils and sharks’ teeth. Kellam’s field has a playground and playing fields for numerous recreational sports activities. Fishing is enjoyed by many residents.
