Crofton is one of the best places to live for families because of it’s easy access to Washington, Baltimore, Annapolis and BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport. It is only six miles to a MARC station. Along with good schools and amenities, a friendly community and access to a variety of shopping, many families are making Crofton their home.
Crofton was founded in 1964 on 1,600 acres of land and centered around a golf course. It is a Special Community Benefit District (SCBD) or tax district. The Crofton SCBD is authorized to provide the community with public safety, common property maintenance, recreational programs and administration of those programs.
There are multiple country clubs in Crofton. Shopping is easy with many options. The Waugh Chapel Towne Centre, across Rt. 3 from the Crofton community, includes a movie theater, grocery store as well as many dining and shopping options. There is a branch of the public library in Crofton.
Crofton and the western part of Anne Arundel County has seen rapid growth making the traffic on Rt. 3 a challenge at times. Plans to widen the road to relieve traffic are underway.
There are 10,434 households in Crofton with a total population of 27,348. Households with children under the age of 18 are 27.5% of the total. And 28.6% of the residents are from a minority population, as compared to the state of Maryland average of 41.8%
There is a private golf course and swim and tennis club in Crofton. Nearby are public parks, playgrounds and recreational fields.
58.8% of adults have at least a Bachelor’s degree.
Three elementary schools serve Crofton. And in September 2020 the new Crofton High School opened its doors to students in grades 9 and 10. The school will have 11th grade students starting in the fall of 2021, and will have its first senior class in the fall of 2022 (comprising the school’s first graduating class, the Class of 2023)
