The Shipley’s Choice community is ranked as one of the best family friendly communities in Maryland because of its excellent schools, proximity to green space and large number of recreational opportunities. It is approximately 13 miles north of Annapolis and located in Millersville. There are 1,100 single family homes, most on quarter acre lots. It is easy access to BWI airport, the Light Rail and Amtrak train station, and commuting to Baltimore. The closest shopping and restaurants are in Severna Park.
The neighborhood is divided into two main community organizations, Shipley’s Choice Home Owners Association (SCHOA) and Shipley’s Choice Community Association (SCCA). There is a minimal annual fee for each Association. The Beautification Committee of SCHOA maintains the mini-parks and mini-gardens in common areas.
Severn Run Natural Environment Area, a 1,700 acre natural protected area with hiking trails and fishing spots is across Rt. 97 from Shipley’s Choice, and Kinder Farm Park is also nearby.
Demographics
The total population of Shipley’s Choice is just over 4,000. There are 1,080 children with 26% of the homes having children under the age of 18. 11% of minorities make up the population, as compared to the Maryland state average of 41.8%.
Recreation
The Shipley’s Choice Swim & Tennis Club is privately managed and offers two swimming pools, a children’s pool, and tennis courts. Residents and their children can also participate in the Greater Severna Park Athletic Association (GSPAA) sports leagues and teams.
Education
The residents of Shipley’s Choice are well educated with 85% having at least a Bachelor’s Degree.
