Bilingual college workshop offered to Prince George’s County students

A Bilingual College Workshop in Spanish and English: 
Estudios Universitarios a su Alcance – A College Education Is Within Your Reach is being offered to Prince George’s County students Feb. 2.

The Prince George’s County Public Schools International Student Counseling Office is collaborating with the University of Maryland to host a free college workshop in Spanish for students in Grades 6-12 and their parents from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the University of Maryland College Park – Adele H. Stamp Student Union in College Park. The program will include the following grade-level workshops facilitated by counselors:

• Grade 12 – How to finance your college education and information about the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
• Grades 10 and 11 – How to apply for college and how to get financial aid
• Grade 9 – How to succeed in high school and prepare for college
• Grades 6, 7, and 8 – Early preparation for your college dream

Dr. Alvin Crawley, Interim Superintendent for Prince George’s County Public Schools, will welcome families and discuss ways that families can support their children on a path to being college and career ready. Gloria Aparicio Blackwell, Director of Community Engagement for the University of Maryland, will deliver the keynote address. The event will include a fair with bilingual representatives from area colleges, universities, and community organizations. Workshop participants can also tour the University of Maryland, College Park campus.
