rsz_band_of_the_nations_capitalCELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE IN SOLOMONS

A new Blue Star Memorial Marker is being dedicated at the Visitor Information Center in Solomons on Friday, July 1. Sponsored by the Calvert Garden Club, the Memorial acknowledges the sacrifices of our nation’s Armed Forces. The public is invited to join in the ceremony from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

The Blue Star Memorial Marker began as a highway beautification project in 1944, initiated by the New Jersey Garden Club. The project has spread across the country and now includes 14 markers in Maryland.

After the ceremony, walk over to the Calvert Marine Museum to enjoy First FREE Friday. In the spirit of true patriotism, it is fitting that the 257th Army Band, also known as “The Band of the Nation’s Capital” will delight and educate all ages with patriotic music, marches, and entertainment on the outdoor stage at 6:30 p.m. Bring lawn chairs and a picnic supper. The museum is open and free to the public, with docents in every gallery from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Also, cruise aboard the Wm. B. Tennison with free 30-minute boat rides sponsored by M&T Bank.
