Build toy boats, pick crabs and more at Solomons Maritime Festival

CalvertMarineMuseum1Celebrate the reopening of the Calvert Marine Museum and Southern Maryland heritage all on Saturday, May 3, at the museum’s ninth annual Solomons Maritime Festival.

Antique boats and motors, master maritime carvers, crafts and cooking demonstrations, traditional music and boat rides offer something for every member of the family from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to the festival and the museum re-opening is free.

Taste traditional foods, learn how to pick crabs, shuck oysters, enjoy local gospel and old time music, see Chesapeake Bay retrievers in action, watch model boats skim the waters of the boat basin and talk with traditional crafts people as they demonstrate their skills.

For children, there is toy boat building and free rides aboard the historic bugeye, the Wm. B. Tennison for all ages. The Antique Boat and Marine Engine Show will also be underway in the parking lot.
