The butterflies are back at Brookside Gardens in Silver Spring!
Starting July 1, the seasonal “Wings of Fancy Live Butterfly and Caterpillar Exhibit” will be on display at the gardens located in Wheaton Regional Park. The display features hundreds of live butterflies from all over the world and will run through Oct. 25.
Get an up close experience of brilliant butterflies from North America, Costa Rica, Africa and Asia as they soar among colorful flowers. Learn about their amazing metamorphosis, the important role butterflies play in having healthy ecosystems, and how to ensure these beautiful insects thrive in our own gardens.
The exhibit is open 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. daily. Admission is $8 for ages 13 and up; $5 for ages 3-12 and free for those 2 and younger. Tickets can be purchased at the Visitors Center or at the Conservatory gift shops. Tickets are good for re-entry to the exhibit througout the day of purchase. Parking is available at the Visitor’s Center (a half mile walk from the exhibit) and the Conservatory. Strollers are not permitted in the exhibit, but it is wheelchair accessible. It’s warm in the exhibit so bring water to drink!
A five day Butterfly Flutterby Fun camp is being offered July 6-10 from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. for ages 6 to 11. Kids will get a special behind-the-scenes tour of the exhibit, create butterfly crafts and more. Cost is $290. Visit the Montomery parkpass website to sign up.
