A Household Economic Study by the U.S. Department of Commerce found:

  • 4.2 million school-age children ages 5 to 14 years are home alone while their mothers work.
  • 15 million youth (26%) are responsible for taking care of themselves in hours after school.
  • 15.3 million children would participate in after-school programs if they had access to quality programs and AFFORDABLE programs
  • 24 % of mothers paid an average of $135 per week or $7,020 a year for childcare.

The Wallace Foundation found:

  • $4,500 – annual cost of a teen to attend after-school activities.
  • $4,320 – annual cost of an elementary/middler schooler for after school activities.

No wonder so many parents are struggling to get their kids into sports.
