Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016: The Lure of Sea Glass
Delve into the history and stories hidden within sea glass when Richard LaMotte, recognized sea glass expert, author and collector, returns to the Calvert Marine Museum Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, at 2 p.m., for a free presentation and discussion.
LaMotte will discuss his latest book, “The Lure of Sea Glass,” and detail the role of sea glass in our past, present and future. A book signing will follow the presentation, which is in the Harms Gallery.
This awaited sequel to LaMotte’s popular “Pure Sea Glass” features entertaining stories to inspire readers to continue their quest for these treasures and learn more about the history of sea glass.
LaMotte’s Sunday lecture will include a brief overview of the key features of sea glass before discussing insights and images from his new book. He will explore what creates the strong emotional bond many have to sea glass. His talk will also touch on the nuances in collections around the U.S. and focus on some extraordinary shards from the Chesapeake Bay.
Guests are encouraged to bring in a few of their own shards for review and exploration.
