Chesapeake BMX hosting Olympic Day with free racing

bmxChesapeake BMX is joining the over 300 BMX tracks around the United States to participate in Olympic Day June 23. The event is to help foster the development of amateur BMX racing and to encourage the youth of the country to enjoy physical fitness by riding bicycles and participating in organized sporting events.

Chesapeake BMX will offer free BMX racing as part of Olympic Day.

Olympic Day is a worldwide commemoration of Baron Pierre de Coubertin’s June 23, 1894, convening of the first International Olympic Committee meeting at the Sorbonne in Paris and founding of the Modern Olympic Games. National Olympic Committees throughout the world will also participate in the celebration with each committee sending Olympic Day greetings to participating nations.

Registration is from 10 am. to noon. at Chesapeake BMX, 750 Donaldson Ave. in Severn. Races will start shortly after noon.

Chesapeake BMX opened 12 years ago and is the most active track in the state of Maryland. BMX Racing is not about riding in the streets or performing tricks on ramps, it is all about speed and racing for riders of all ages on a groomed race track. The youngest rider is 2 years old and the oldest rider is 56. The season runs mid-March through Dec. 15. Practice sessions with approximately 60-70 riders are held every Wednesday evening. Race events occur every Friday night and Sunday afternoon and are attended by an average of about 110 riders.
