This week, Chesapeake Family is sharing favorite holiday traditions from readers. Today’s tradition is from the Gray family of Kent Island.
Homemade marshmallows and peppernut cookies
On Christmas Eve, we all gather in front of the fireplace and read a Christmas book that is picked out each year. The big hit is to have hot chocolate with homemade marshmallows made only for Christmas Eve. The yummy drink is complemented by our family’s traditional peppernut cookies which actually do not have any pepper or nuts in them! We all then get to open one Christmas Eve gift before we set out the cookies and carrots for Santa and his reindeer. Our Christmas Eve celebrations are looked forward to more than Christmas morning.
