Doctor Profile: Speech & Language Specialists

What do speech language pathologists at Chesapeake Speech Language Associates treat?

CSLA is a medically-based speech therapy practice specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of speech sound disorders, language delays and disorders, feeding and swallowing disorders (infants too!), fluency disorders, and voice disorders. We work
with clients 0-18 years old with a wide range of medical, developmental, and neurodevelopmental disorders/differences.

How do you help children feel comfortable and confident during therapy sessions?

Our therapy approach is child-led and relationship-based, building on each client’s strengths, interests, and experiences to support growth. We prioritize strong connections with clients and caregivers to create a safe, nurturing environment where meaningful, functional goals can be addressed authentically.

At what age should parents consider having their child evaluated for speech & language development by a speech-language pathologist?

If you have concerns about your child’s speech & language development, reach out to an SLP. Earlier is better! Early identification means early intervention, providing children with the necessary support needed to reach their full potential as they grow and develop. And don’t forget—knowledge is power!

What role do parents play in supporting progress outside of therapy sessions?

Research shows that practice outside of therapy sessions is key to building and reinforcing the skills being taught. Parents and caregivers who add therapeutic activities into their daily routines provide natural learning opportunities where children can practice and apply their skills.
