Children’s National and Johns Hopkins rated among best children’s hospitals

Top 10 out of nearly 200

U.S. News surved 178 pediatric centers to obtain data in 10 specialties for the ranking. They also asked 150 pediatric specialists in each specialty where they would send the sickest children. Eighty hospitals ranked in at least one specialty. The rankings weighed a three-part blend of reputation, outcome, and care-related measures such as nursing care, advanced technology, credentialing, and other factors.

“Being recognized as one of the best pediatric healthcare providers in the country is an honor and reaffirms our increased quality and excellence in specialty areas for children,” said Dr. Kurt Newman, president and CEO of Children’s National Medical Center. “As we continue to re-imagine how we care for patients and their families we hope to continue improving our care, advocacy, research, and education.”

Additionally, for the fifth consecutive year, Children’s National is one of only ten children’s hospitals in the country—and the only children’s hospital in the mid-Atlantic region— named to the Leapfrog Group’s 2011 Top Hospitals List. Children’s is also consistently a top ranked freestanding children’s hospital in terms of funding from the National Institutes of Health for pediatric research.

The rankings can be found on the U.S.News & World Report website or in the August print edition.
