Bayside is a Simply Wonderful Summer Camp!
Bayside Day Camp (at Sandy Point State Park) is a wonderful, local camp that our son has loved attending for 5 years now. Our younger son has started to attend and thoroughly enjoys it, too.
Mike and Georgia (Rafiki and Sierra to the kids) are the couple who run the camp and they are, quite simply, the most energetic, creative, kindest, dedicated people you could ever hope to meet. They hire warm, engaging counselors, many of whom are former campers.
The activities they have are fun and exactly what kids should be doing all summer (campers get to chose ahead of time) - swimming, kayaking (for older kids), crabbing, sports, crafts, nature hikes and more. Each morning, Mike and Georgia bring a trailer-full of equipment for the kids to have free rein.
About 3-4 times throughout the summer, they hold an overnight camping session on a Thursday night for a small amount additional (about $25). Included are all the tent set-ups, dinner, activities, and breakfast and lunch the next day.
Overall the cost of the camp is under $200 a week - extremely reasonable for what is provided. Since this is a homegrown venture, it's not necessarily the most technologically advanced. Their website is not slick and the information comes out when they can get it out. However, the communication - from enrollment to the emergency phone at the camp - is always great and we have never had a problem.
I have recommended Bayside to several friends and their kids have all loved it. Bayside really is a fantastic place that fulfills what a truly great summer day camp experience should be for a child.
