Don’t miss Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade

LightsParadebyJohnHormphotograpyGet your spot along the banks of the Annapolis Spa Creek Saturday, Dec. 13 before 6 p.m. to catch the decorated boats sail by in the Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade.

Beautifully decorated boats light up the night at this Annapolis holiday tradition. The parade takes place from 6-8 p.m. There will be two fleets changing positions around 6:45 p.m. so if the boats disappear — a second fleet will be coming into view shortly.

The best spots to view the parade include:

  • Eastport Bridge If it’s a warm or still night, this is the best vantage point. You can see the fleets both above and below the bridge and get a close look as they pass through the bridge. Note: The bridge will be closed to vehicles but will open before the parade, at 6:45 and again around 7:45. When the bridge opens, if you are standing on or near the drawbridge, you will need to move behind the tra ffic gates when the bridge goes up.
  • Naval Academy The length of the seawall bordering Spa Creek offers a long unobstructed view of the parade. However, check ahead for Naval Academy Security regulations that will be in effect for the evening.
  • City Dock This is a perennial favorite spot for viewers where there is the choice of watching the boats collectively as they parade in the harbor or individually as they negotiate Ego Alley. The Alley spot offers the up-close look at boats, decorations and crews.
  • Other Spots O fices, homes or boats along the harbor; the walkway in front of Annapolis City Marina in Eastport or any of the streets that dead-end at the Harbor or Spa Creek.

The parking site for this year’s parade will be the garage at Park Place, 100 Westgate Circle, with a maximum charge for that day. There will be signs on Rowe Boulevard and Taylor Avenue directing visitors to the garage. The City Shuttle will circulate every ten minutes from Park Place to downtown and from there back to Park Place until 2:30 a.m. The Shuttle can be hailed anywhere along the route. It will be free of charge that day.

If you cannot make it to the parade, you can watch the parade being streamed on www.livestream.com and search Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade. The parade will be available for viewing for two months. Streaming is compliments of www.streamingyourevent.com
