Easy Family Recipes: Peanut Butter Banana Breakfast Shakes

Peanut Butter Banana Protein ShakeI teach the kids in my cooking classes and camps how to make smoothies just about every week. We discuss the various ingredient options and how to load everything into the blender, but we also talk about how to use a blender safely and go over all of the parts of the machine. My favorite part is always showing them the blade and having them all chant about the “whirling blade of death.” It gives them a bit of respect for the potential danger, and also makes them feel like they’re really grown-up when using the blender solo.

This recipe is a  great high protein breakfast smoothie, ready in a flash and ready to go for your favorite late sleeper. I love the texture and thickness that bananas give to smoothies, and by freezing them ahead of time (just slice them and keep in a bag in the freezer), you’ll eliminate the need for ice cubes and keep the shake rich tasting and feeling.
