Ellicott City sixth grader wins National PTA Reflections award

polly moserA sixth grader from Ellicott City’s Burleigh Manor Middle School was one of six winners in the National PTA’s 2011-21012 Reflections Outstanding Interpretation Awards.

Polly Moser won the musical composition category of the national competition for her composition “The Flow of Water,” the National PTA recently announced.

Winners were chosen from hundreds of thousands of submissions from students across the nation and in European schools serving military families who participated in this year’s program, themed “Diversity Means…”

“Research shows that the arts contribute to creative thinking, emotional resiliency, problem-solving, as well as other important 21st century skills which, in turn, result in better attendance, higher test scores and higher graduation rates.” Said National PTA President Betsy Landers. “We are extremely proud of our Reflections Program. For more than 40 years this arts program has given children the opportunity to express themselves creatively and be recognized for it.”
