Take in live music, great food and a barbecue competition at The Naptown barBAYq Contest and Music Festival May 6-7 at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds in Crownsville.
New this year, the festival is on Friday and Saturday. Hours will be 4-10 p.m. on Friday and noon-10 p.m., Saturday. Those competing in the KCBS sanctioned barbecue competition will be set up in the new barBAYq Village, which will give festival-goers the chance to walk through and meet the competitors. On Friday night, a Peoples’ Choice Wing Competition will take place and those attending can taste as many wings as they wish and vote for their favorite.
The family affair has free kids’ activities in the Kid Korral as well as arts and crafts vendors and cooking demonstrations. The Kids Korral will include moon bounces, obstacle courses, balloon art, carnival games, spin art, a photo booth and more — all free for kids 12 and younger.
Entertainment will include 9 Mile Roots and Weird Science on Friday and Ken Wright, Mike Butler Trio, Swamp Donkey and more on Saturday. A Peoples’ Choice Pulled Pork Competition will be held Saturday starting at 2 p.m. Those in attendance can sample BBQ and vote for their favorite.
