Kernel Rating (out of 5):
MPAA Rating: PG-13 Length: 119 minutes
Age Appropriate For: 14+. Persistent cursing; some sexually themed jokes and conversations (including one comparing various brands of condoms); a failed suicide attempt that’s played only for humor; an implied sex scene involving two characters in a bed together but no nudity; discussion of drug use; and drinking. It continues along the same vein as the first “Anchorman,” so if your teens could see that, then they can see this.
‘Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues’ won’t be the cult classic that the first one was, but it’s not an utter waste of a sequel. The film continues well along the jokes-from-news path, even if it doesn’t possess the nonstop hilarity of its predecessor.

There’s a reason that comedies don’t often have sequels, and if they do, why they’re not so funny. “The Hangover 2” worked, to varying degrees of success, because of how consistently it followed its predecessor’s plot points and twists; “The Hangover 3,” though, was far less successful. At least “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” is funnier than “The Hangover 3” was, and at least Will Ferrell and his news team still have the chemistry that Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zack Galifianakis seemed to have lacked. But that doesn’t mean “Anchorman 2” will have the same cult longevity as its predecessor—it just means you have a good choice for a matinee this weekend.
