Family Movie Review: Draft Day (PG-13)

DraftDay ChesapeakeFamilyMovieReviewKernel Rating (out of 5): whole-popcorn-kernalhalf-popcorn-kernal

MPAA Rating: G           Length: 101 minutes

Age Appropriate For: 12+. A movie about football that doesn’t really take place on the football field, so there’s no real action element. Instead, lots of cursing and crude language, as well as some kissing, discussion of sex, and a couple hiding their relationship and pregnancy.

Kevin Costner’s career ‘resurgence’ keeps rolling along with ‘Draft Day,’ a movie made with the help of the National Football League and about the general manager of the Cleveland Browns football team. The film will neither please already-existing football fans nor make new ones.

It’s confusing to consider that “Draft Day” was directed by Ivan Reitman, the man who gave us “Ghostbusters,” and stars Kevin Costner, the man who was also in the baseball classic “Field of Dreams.” Those were both great things, and “Draft Day” is not a great thing.
