Family Movie Review: Dumb and Dumber To (PG-13)

DumbAndDumberTo ChesapeakeFamilyMovieReviewKernel Rating (out of 5): 0

MPAA Rating: PG-13       Length: 110 minutes

Age Appropriate For: 14+. The level of disgusting humor is foul: tons of bathroom humor, most directly related to feces and farts; lots of sexually themed and sexist jokes, including slang words for female body parts and the general degradation of women; and the implied scene of a teenage boy masturbating. Also, the depiction of a man’s genitals and butt; racist jokes about Asians; violence against birds (you see their eaten corpses); and discussion of drug use.

‘Dumb and Dumber To’ is everything you never wanted. The return of Jim Carrey and Jeff Bridges to their 20-year-old roles makes for an idiotic, embarrassing, impressively stupid movie.

Who has been clamoring for a sequel to “Dumb and Dumber”? Shame on you. “Dumb and Dumber To,” which returns Jim Carrey and Jeff Bridges to their iconic (I guess?) comedy roles from 20 years ago, is one of the dumbest films this year. Carrey and Bridges aren’t the only ones showing the passage of time on their faces—the movie is an ugly mix of outdated sexism, racism, and anti-intellectualism.
